Durham Medical Services Company Adopts Organ Donation as Charity to Drive Donor Registration in North Carolina April 11, 2005 - Durham, North Carolina - AMS, the Durham based provider of medical transcription, coding, billing, practice management, and consulting services, has announced its sponsorship of the Triangle “Living Waiting Room” as their featured charity for the quarter. The Living Waiting Room is a month long, statewide initiative organized by Carolina Donor Services (CDS) a federally designated organ procurement organization serving 6.1 million North Carolinians.  The Living Waiting Room is a mock doctor’s office waiting room where volunteers sit and wait, representing the thousands of North Carolinians on the organ and tissue transplant waiting list.  The goal is to educate all North Carolinians on the importance and impact of properly signing up to be an organ and tissue donor. The Triangle Living Waiting Room will be held April 19-21 at Cherry Modern Furnishings (www.cherrymodern.com) at 400 South Glenwood Ave in Raleigh.  As a sponsor, AMS employees will join CDS volunteers each day to sit in the mock waiting room to dramatize the 3,000 North Carolinians currently on the waiting list for an organ or tissue transplant. “We chose this charity in recognition of national Donate Life month,” said Michelle Durner, president of AMS.  “It is important for the public to sign donor cards and discuss their wishes with their family members. Most people think that having a heart on your license is enough – it’s not.  You actually need to sign a donor card and talk with your family.  We want to help educate all North Carolinians on this extremely important issue.” AMS has already given their 40+ employees donor cards, and is encouraging them to sign up and talk about organ donation with their families.  “This is an important issue and we are proud that AMS is joining The News & Observerand WPTF-AM in sponsoring this initiative to help increase the number of properly registered organ donors in our state,” says Jeannine Neagle, Director of Communications & Marketing of Carolina Donor Services.
